Technical Training Specialist assists in the development of the workforce at the facility to which they are assigned. He/She is responsible for using his/her expertise in designing technical training programs specifically for our maintenance and technical areas.  In conjunction with the BENTELER Academy, the specialist works to implement and manage training programs, collect and record relevant data, prepare relevant class materials, initiate and participate in local education-business alliances, and manage apprenticeships according to the BENTELER Academy models and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops course instruction programs for all maintenance and technical related areas using his/her technical expertise and training experience.
  • Conducts the day to day business of the BENTELER Academy in scheduling training participants, training vendors, E-learning labs and other resources.
  • Communicates with the Academy Manager regarding any problems, potential conflicts, delays in action and personnel issues affecting the BENTELER Academy and its mission/ programs and confers with the plant HR Manager regarding solutions.
  • Conducts orientation training for new hire production associates.
  • Works with the Maintenance Manager BSTMC in implementing and managing BENTELER Academy Apprenticeship programs.
  • Works to establish and manage High School internships/apprenticeship opportunities within the facility.
  • Enters relevant data into any LMS/E-learning management platforms used to manage BENTELER Academy training.
  • Evaluate modes of training delivery, such as instructor led or virtual to optimize training effectiveness, training costs, or environmental impacts in conjunction with the BENTELER Academy Manager and Maintenance Manager BSTMC.
  • Develops relationships within the facility's leadership team and seeks to provide support as needed.
  • Obtain, organize, or develop training procedure manuals, guides, or course materials, such as handouts or visual materials for classroom sessions.
  • Works with the BENTELER Academy Manager U.S. in developing relationships between BENTELER and local community colleges; participates in business-educational alliances and roundtables, and other community initiatives deemed important for BENTELER to engage in.
  • Participates in local high schools, colleges, HS career centers and community college job fairs/ expositions in conjunction with facility HR Department.
  • Works with the Academy Manager to ensure training classes are set up and running smoothly.
  • Assists in determining the effectiveness of training and in continuous improvement of courses.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Instrumentation and Controls, or related field - or equivalent combination of education with a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent and work experience.
  • ASTD or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years prior professional level training experience is required.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, adult training principles for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Experienced presenter and trainer in a corporate setting and training classroom environment.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
  • Has knowledge of instructional design, public education system structure, and principles of human performance improvement (HPI).
  • Experience in a Steel or Tube mill preferred
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment in a technical related field
  • Experience with Automation, PLCs, Instrumentation and Controls, Electronics
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Experience with Siemens preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Can competently work in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, graphics, email and productivity software.
  • Works in a hot/cold plant environment to learn the process in order to design technical training courses and training programs.
