Core Responsibilities:

 

  • Evaluate the current and future capacity requirements of the mill to prevent constraints, by aligning sales forecasted volumes to the mill’s capabilities.
  • Continue to develop and lead best practices related to capacity planning functions of the Shreveport mill.
  • Continuously evaluate the cycle time and yield of all products, throughout the mill, to improve capacity planning accuracy.
  • Perform independent capacity risk assessments and mitigation planning; facilitate the resolution of capacity and manpower shortages, backorders, and other existing challenges.
  • Provide daily/ weekly analysis on the following critical metrics; on-time production, material availability, capacity constraints, production constraints, and workarounds
  • Successful coordination with plant operations, maintenance, and quality teams to achieve a balanced operating plan in support of business goals. Which will include,but will not be limited to; the creation of shift models, providing direction to shift schedules, overtime decisions, and evaluating future manpower and staffing needs.
  • Provide and maintain quota in SAP to support booking of the forecasted sales volumes of the mill; ensuring alignment between order booking and forecasted sales volumes
  • Assess the production cost of all sales orders and perform ad hoc analysis to determine margins of individual sales order and product groups; to ensure profitability and provide direction to the marketing strategy for the mill
  • Review capital investment projects to determine expected impact on mill capacity, production cost, and change to mill capabilities
  • Review and assess all new products to determine production feasibility, production cost, and the capacity requirements.
  • Work with the technology team to improve the rolling model, rolling parameters, and product definitions to improve throughput, yield, and material utilization; in an effort to reduce the overall manufacturing cost and increase mill output.
  • Assist the sales team, as a key user, with the booking process of new sales orders as needed
  • Coordinate the review and release of all new orders with stakeholders in the mill; within the defined release time for new orders
  • Track all sales orders throughout the entire planning and production processes, with the goal of ensuring the orders are completed on time to meet customer expectations
  • Maintain and evolve procedures and systems as needed in a continuous improvement environment
  • Monitor and Report on all assigned KPIs      
  • Continuously work to improvement of data accuracy within SAP, MES and all other IT tools to improve the accuracy of planning functions
  • Continuously work to develop and enhance knowledge of Supply Chain functions, in all areas
  • Provide mentoring and training to junior team members

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related course of study preferred or an equivalent combination of college and/or work experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience in a production planning and scheduling role
  • Experience in steel manufacturing preferred
  • Experienced with ERP systems is required, experience with SAP production planning modules is preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Basic knowledge of SQL
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbally
