Purpose of the Job

Partners with Training and Development, Human Resources, and LED in the execution and roll out of a structured technical curriculum with a focus on production and skilled trades development.  Partners with the Technical Training Specialist and BENTELER maintenance team to develop and implement technical training programs for the BENTELER Academy model in the U.S. Utilizes performance consulting to determine additional technical training needs. Partners with the Automotive BENTELER Academy staff to maintain and create similar concepts and share programs between the centers.  Overlaps and learns additional Training functions as needed. Assists in the implementation of effective policies, forms and procedures in accordance with governing bodies: i.e. ISO/TS 16949, API, etc.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Guides the development, execution and roll out of a structured BENTELER Academy model for all U.S. Steel/Tube Plants
  • Manages and controls the Academy budget
  • Assesses the organizational development needs of operating, business and functional units to derive solutions based on stakeholder input
  • Drives the development of standardized training kernels (cores) for technical support and skilled trades positions in all plants
  • Advise/support team members experiencing difficulty obtaining learning objectives
  • Maintain the BENTELER Academy program
  • Works with managers and supervisors to support team member’s continued learning
  • Establishes policies and processes to enable performance through learning programs
  • Prepares subject matter experts (SME) to deliver technical training when needed
  • Develops and facilitates technical training programs
  • Proposes and delivers training and development programs and objectives
  • Analyzes learning delivery methods to recommend best approach(es) for each situation, including make/buy decisions
  • Develops and monitors spending against the departmental budgets
  • Obtains and/or develops effective training materials working with production staff and managers
  • Extensive collaboration and communication with all levels in Production to enhance and build high performance teams
  • Trains and coaches production trainers, managers, supervisors and others involved in Team Member training and development efforts
  • Develops, tracks and reports training metrics
  • Conducts follow-up studies of completed training to evaluate, measure effectiveness and modify for continuous improvement
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization
  • Works effectively as a team member with other members of Production, Production trainers, Management, Organizational Learning & Development and the other functional training leaders in the organization
  • Develops and maintainsproduction operations training policies and processes that support ISO and other standards that support relatedcertifications
  • Plans, organizes, facilitates and orders supplies for employee development and training activities
  • Responsible for all training records and compliance with all internal and external regulations and laws
  • Some evening and weekend responsibilities are required
  • Implements appropriate technical training solutions based on performance consulting, job task analysis and skill gap analysis for each facility
  • Identifies internal SMEs at each facility to determine training support needs
  • Ensures that training initiatives and programs drive to demonstrated competency
  • Partners with each department to provide supporting hard resources (labs, computers, equipment) to support training initiatives
  • Utilizes internal PMO tools to ensure that project is meeting required milestones and to inform the project owner of any potential roadblocks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Communication, Business, Administration or related field or equivalent work experience and a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Technical Background preferred.
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) credential, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Excellent training facilitation and presentation skills. Must be able to use presentation skills to effectively engage participants at all levels to promote professional development
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Ability to adapt to fast paced environment and work well under pressure
  • General knowledge of supporting team members in their academic, and professional success
  • Experience leading Production Training programs in a manufacturing operations environment
  • Successful track record of developing and delivering training programs, creating materials and utilizing a variety of training methods and tools
  • Demonstrated process improvement in the training organization
  • Competency development, skill builder profiles and establishment of career paths
  • Knowledge of training process requirements, CMMI or other maturity models and/or other methods to formalize consistent and repeatable training programs.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented organization
  • Experience planning and executing projects and professional development programs.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the various departments within a manufacturing setting
  • Experience using a training management system
  • Experience with budgeting departments
  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience preferably in light or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in training and development

Physical Demands outside of sitting at desk & computer work

  • Walks frequently
  • Works in a hot/cold plant environment to learn the process in order to design technical training courses and training programs.

  • Ability to work in fast paced, high demand environment, at times with minimal supervision
  • Experience with training programs in a greenfield/construction project or start up company a plus
  • Ability to travel, if needed
