Purpose of the Job

The technical sales representative provides technical expertise that enables the sales team to fully understand customer needs and develop appropriate solutions.

The technical sales representative also presents product proposals and solutions and technical advice to customers before and after a sale. 

That way this position helps to develop long-term business relationships with our customers and to generate new sales opportunities to support the business strategy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advise customers on how to best use our products
  • Collaborate with the sales, production, quality and engineering teams in order to determine how products can be made or modified to meet the customer needs
  • Provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education to the sales team
  • Use technical skills to demonstrate to potential customers the usefulness of the product and how it may suit better than competing products
  • Accompany the sales team members during customer visits
  • Identify new sales opportunities and product ideas during customer visits, aiming at meeting their needs
  • Maintain knowledge of competitor products
  • Research market requirements and market data
  • Support marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences and other marketing events
  • Prepare, evaluate and present Technical Papers with Engineering support in Conferences and other marketing events
  • Prepare Case Studies for internal or external publications regarding added value solutions to customers with technical and commercial impact
  • Support the design of custom-made products
  • Prepare reports for the management


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • BS in Engineering or Metallurgy
  • 3+ years technical sales experience, preferably in the tube and/or steel industry or in the Oil & Gas Service and/or Manufacturing sectors
  • Proven track record of delivering client-focused solutions to customer needs
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Downhole Tools operational knowledge in the Completion arena
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Proficiency with SAP, Excel and databases is a must
