Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and identify potential areas of trade compliance vulnerability and related risk throughout the NAO organization
  • Design a region-wide organizational structure with a systematic and practical approach to addressing and managing trade compliance risk                                                                           
  • Lead the development of compliance goals and objectives and monitoring performance of the regional customs group                                                                                                           
  • Work with import/export brokers to ensure that import/export documentation (e.g. shipping export declarations, AES transmissions, entry summaries, valuation, classification, etc. are properly reported and documented                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
  • Maintain expertise in trade-related regulations and trends through ongoing education and participation in relevant governmental and trade association meetings                                                               
  • Interface and maintain relationships with US and governing agencies (C-TPAT, US Customs & Border Protection, Regulatory Audit, etc.)                                                                                           
  • Respond to inquiries from Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders regarding HTS and Schedule B classification, ECCN classifications, documentation requirements, or other import and export regulations to ensure timely clearance                                                                                                                                                                                                                       
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant import rules and regulations, including and assisting in defining regional trade best practice for the compliance program and identifying and supporting the development of capabilities needed to execute the global trade compliance strategy                                                                                                                                                              
  • Review and look for opportunities in the US Customs and Border Protection Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program and the Importer Self-Assessment Program (ISA) as well as other trusted trade programs 

 

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain / Operations Management, Economics, or Mechanical Engineering; advanced education preferred                                                                    
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in customs and trade; experience in materials management preferred; prior leadership experience required                                                                        
  • 2 - 3 years international manufacturing experience  
  • Licensed customs broker certification required; foreign trade zone knowledge / Certification and CCS / CES preferred
